Het cyclotron of wel deeltjesversneller werd sinds 1997  gebruikt door BV Cyclotron VU voor het produceren van radio-isotopen voor medische toepassingen. Inmiddels zijn wij verhuisd naar het Imaging Center Amsterdam waar onze nieuwe Cyclone KIUBE cyclotrons volop aan het werk zijn om radio-isotopen te produceren en zijn de oude cyclotrons overbodig geworden. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Veiligheid<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Het oude cyclotron is vorig jaar uit productie gehaald om te zorgen dat de radioactiviteit grotendeels kan vervallen en het uithijsen van de ruim 20 ton wegende machine veilig kan plaatsvinden. Het uithijsen en het transport is afgestemd met de ANVS (Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming). <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Duurzaam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Na al die jaren trouwe dienst in Amsterdam gaat het cyclotron nu op transport naar Roemeni\u00eb en zal daar weer ge\u00efnstalleerd worden om vervolgens opnieuw radioactieve isotopen te produceren. Het is natuurlijk prachtig dat dit cyclotron een tweede leven gaat krijgen elders in Europa.  Later dit jaar zullen er nog twee cyclotrons een nieuwe bestemming krijgen, de voorbereidingen hiervoor zijn reeds gestart.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Top team effort<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Het is komt niet vaak voor dat er een cyclotron verhuisd moet worden. Ons hele team heeft de afgelopen tijd hard gewerkt om alles goed voor te bereiden en daardoor kon alles vandaag veilig en goed verlopen!
